Jan Herskind
|
Jan Herskind was born in Roskilde, Denmark in 1955.
In his early days Jan Herskind trained as an actor at the academy, however, after a few years Jan opted to devote himself to the design world.
In the middle '70s Jan Herskind designed the World Clock, which for a period was exhibited in the foyer of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. |
In the period between 1984 - 1989 Jan Herskind established a clothing company, Herskind & Herskind with his brother, Jacob Herskind. The brothers designed the labels Radioactive and Glasnost, which were sold at Harrods in London, Bloomingdale, New York, in Komsomol and Moscow, and Mads Noergaard Copenhagen.
In 1990-91 Jan Herskind designed collections for Team Denmark in connection with the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992.
In early 1991 Jan moved to Germany. Here he began his special designs of handmade bicycles, Herskind & Herskind, then - as now - was marked by his sense of quality, the simple line, aesthetics and innovation. The Herskind & Herskind bikes were made in a series of limited editions, including the Trollo-bike, which among others was sold by Donna Karan in London and New York. Jan Herskind has also cooperated with Mercedes and Jaguar on the design and manufacture of bicycles under private labels.
In spring 2009, Jan Herskind began further development of his bike designs under the name Simplicity, especially for the launch of a simple, light and aesthetically beautiful electric bicycle. The Simplicity-bike's logo, a "Welcome-Stop man", is created by his brother, Jacob Herskind, www.jacobherskind.dk.
